PURPOSE:To reduce the read/reproduction time by reading and scanning respectively two frame pictures by one carrying in reading and reproducing a film where, e.g., two pictures are provided continuously in one picture of the film. CONSTITUTION:The picture information in the designated film is selected and extracted by a picture retrieval means (b) and the carrying of the picture information is stopped at the read scanning position detected by a position detection means (c). When, e.g., two frames of picture exists in the pattern of the film at the read scanning position, the picture read means (a) is scanned at every frame via a control means (e) by depressing a page continuous shot button (d) to output picture information respectively. After the end of read, the control means (e) operates a picture retrieval means (b) to carry the next read picture of the film to a read scanning position and the reading of the 2-frame picture is repeated. But the operation above is not applied when it is not required to read 2-frame.
