PURPOSE:To improve transmittable light energy by providing a metal layer further on a multilayered film clad enclosing optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:A thin alternate multilayered film clad 2 is formed enclosing a central optical fiber core 1 having a large diameter, and a thin metal layer 3 is formed to the outermost external periphery enclosing the optical fiber core 1. The optical fiber core is constituted of an optional infrared optical fiber material, for example, crystalline fiber such as silver halide, thallium halide, alkali halide, etc. The outermost metal layer 3 is provided only to the neighborhood of an incident end and an exit end of the optical fiber comprising thin metal film consisting of Au, Ag, Al, etc., having >=90% internal reflectance. Further, a resin layer 4 comprising polyethylene is formed to cover the external periphery of the metal layer 3. By this constitution, transmission of larger light energy is possible. |
