PURPOSE:To reduce the proof stress of a shadow mask so as to make it possible to suppress the deformation of the peripheral portion of the shadow mask by heating the vicinity of the periphery of the shadow mask before fixing the 'Inver(R)' shadow mask to a mask frame. CONSTITUTION:After heating the vicinity of the peripheral portion 1 of a rectangular shadow mask 4 made of Fe-Ni family alloy to a temperature higher than 50 deg.C the skirt portion 2 of the shadow mask is pressed to a mask frame 3 and the shadow mask 4 is welded and fixed to the mask frame 3. By such as assembly, even when the metal plate composed mainly of iron and nickel has a high yield strength after annealing, it is possible to reduce the proof stress of the skirt portion 2 and the peripheral portion 1 of the shadow mask sufficiently, and by pressing inward the skirt portion 2 of the shadow mask expanded outward the unfavorable deformation of the shadow mask can be suppressed to recover the distortion of the surface quality so-called the side-fall arising on the peripheral portion 1 after press forming of the shadow mask 4.
