PURPOSE:To observe an image having no distortion without being influenced by a minute shift of an optical axis, the inclination of the end of a fiber to be measured, against the optical axis, etc., by measuring a core and a clad by using fiber transmission light as an illuminating light. CONSTITUTION:A light beam which is emitted from a core incident use light source 8 is propagated through a dummy fiber 9, and a fiber to be measured 5, and emitted from its end face 5a. On the other hand, when a light beam which is emitted from a clad measuring light source 12 installed at a position being adjacent to its end face 5a is made incident on a clad of the fiber to be measured 5, it is propagated through its inside and emitted from the end face 5a. In such a state, by enlarging the end face 5a of the fiber to be measured 5, by an objective lens 5, and observing it by a TV camera 7, a fiber diameter, a core diameter, a fiber non-circle rate, a core non-circle rate, a core eccentricity, etc., can be evaluated.
