PURPOSE:A metal skin which is composed of cobalt matrix containing fine hard particles is formed on the surface of the metallic traveller to give a traveller for a spinning frame of heat and abrasion resistance. CONSTITUTION:A hard draw steel wire is used to form a horizontal or vertical traveller 1, 2. The traveller is subjected to electrodeposition in a plating bath to form, on the surface of the traveller 1, 2, a composite metal skin 3 of cobalt matrix containing fine hard particles of coprecipitating chromium oxide. The fine hard particles are preferably dichromium trioxide of less than 10mum in size and occupy 20-30vol% in the skin. The traveller has a surface of oriented tricobalt tetraoxide layer formed at 300-700 deg.C, consequently its excellent abrasion resistance causes no troubles such as seizing even in high speed running range. |
