PURPOSE:To secure the correspondence between the display position of a display device and the print position of a printer by detecting a specific function code and displaying it on a display device. CONSTITUTION:A data deciding control logic circuit 312 reads data out of a memory 40 storing data via the key input, etc. and controls the display of a display device. If the data read into a circuit 3 show the specific function codes for carriage return, line feed, half line feed, half reverse line feed and margin release respectively, these data are displayed on a display device and at the same time an address pointer 308 is not stepped. The following data equivalent to a single character is prevented by a gate G12 since the signal J received from a gate G11 is equal to '0' by the discordance output of a comparator 321 because the pointer 308 is not stepped. Thus said data is not fetched by a display buffer 306 nor displayed on the display device.
