PURPOSE:To allow the titled system to cope with fixed disk of different kinds by providing a power source cutoff command section sending a power cutoff signal to a power supply after the end of seek for a prescribed CSS region and seeking the head for the prescribed CSS region based on the discrimination result by a CSS region discrimination section. CONSTITUTION:In connecting a fixed disk device 10 of new type to an HD controller 9, the CSS region discrimination section 3 receives type information of the fixed disk device 10 from a CPU 11, refers to the fixed disk type table 4 based on the type information of the fixed disk device 10 to discriminates the location of the CSS region. Then the position of the discriminated CSS region is stored in a CSS region storage section 5. A head seek command section 7 uses a power cutoff request signal detection section 6 to detect a request signal (a), refers to the CSS region storage section 5 and gives a command to seek, e.g., a cylinder number 615. Even if fixed disk devices of different types are loaded, the disk protection control in matching with the type is executed at each power cutoff.
