<p>PURPOSE:To reduce the cost of a radiation image detector and to accurately discriminate an incidence position at a peripheral part by obtaining difference detection outputs from two photodetecting elements for one gamma ray. CONSTITUTION:All or a half of a six scintillation regular triangles are joined with one photomultiplier tube PM 1 while sharing one meeting point and differ ent photomultiplier tubes PM 1 and PM 2 are jointed to the lower parts of respective chambers of a scintillator which is sectioned by a groove M. Then when the gamma ray is incident on a chamber S1-1, the scintillator S1 converts the gammaray into light, and when the depth of the groove M is so determined that about 2/3 of the light is guided to the photomultiplier tube PM 1 and the remain der is guided to the photomultiplier tube PM 2, it is discriminated which cham ber the gamma ray incident on the one scintillator S1 enters. Consequently, which scintillator joined with the photomultiplier tube PM 1 the gamma ray is incident on is known from which of the photomultiplier tube PM 1 having the largest detection output and six photomultiplier tubes adjoining to it generates a detec tion output.</p> |
