PURPOSE:To obtain a casting mold suitable for casting an active metal and high melting point metal by providing a layer consisting of a calcia refractory material contg. a specific ratio of CaO on the surface of the casting mold in contact with a molten metal. CONSTITUTION:The layer having about 0.3-2cm thickness is formed by the calcia refractory material contg. >=40wt% CaO on the surface of the casting mold in contact with the molten metal. Limestone, etc., are used as the raw material to be used for forming the calcia refractory material. A halide, (CaF2, etc.), oxide (MgO, ZrO2, etc.) except CaO, carbide (silicon carbide, etc.), nitride (aluminum nitride, etc.), and carbon (graphite, etc.) in addition to CaO may be incorporated into said material. A binder is added to the material as necessary and the mixture is coated on the casting mold. The coating is dried and is then calcined at about 1,100-1,700 deg.C. The casting mold which permits easy casting of the high activity metal and high melting point metal is thereby obtd.
