PURPOSE:To prevent formation of polymerized by-product in the Diels-Alder reaction of a conjugated diolefin compound with an olefin compound, by carrying out the reaction in the presence of nitroxide compound. CONSTITUTION:The Diels-Alder reaction of a conjugated diolefin compound (e.g a mixture of cyclopentadiene and dicyclopentadiene) and an olefin compound (e.g. 1,3-butadiene) is carried out in the presence of a nitroxide compound of formula I or II (A is -CH2- or -CO-; R1-R4 are H or 1-6C alkyl) (e.g. 2,2,6,6- tetramethyl-4-oxopiperidine-1-oxyl). The amount of the nitroxide compound is 10-10,000ppm, preferably 100-5,000ppm based on the whole reaction mixture. EFFECT:Since the reaction can be carried out at a high temperature, the reaction time can be shortened to 5-30min.
