PURPOSE:To delicately absorb the shock at the time of collision, by adjusting the 'contracting speed' of a shock absorber in such a manner that the speed becomes slow as the stroke advances. CONSTITUTION:When a body 10 collides with the tip of a rod 3 of a piston 2 at a high speed, the speed V of the piston 2 in a contracting stroke is equal to the speed which is determined by both viscosity of the oil and the intensity of a spring 5. As the stroke advances, however, the area of a port 7 gradually becomes smaller. As a result, the flow rate of the outgoing oil decreases, and the 'contracting speed' V gradually becomes slower. Thus, finally, the speed becomes zero, as is shown by a speed-stroke curve when the curve touches the stroke coordinate axis. In other word, the piston is stopped smoothly when the total stroke is completed. |
