PURPOSE:To simplify a system by enabling backwashing with one pump, by providing a liquid storage tank always storing a constant amount of a transmitted liquid between a module and a transmitted liquid tank and performing backwashing by pressurizing said transmitted liquid under the pressure of gas. CONSTITUTION:A liquid storage tank 10 always storing a constant amount of a transmitted liquid 8' is arranged between an ultrafiltration module 4 and a transmitted liquid tank 7 storing a transmitted liquid 8. At the time of backwashing operation, a filter pump 1 is stopped by the action of a control unit 11 and a change-over valve 12 is changed over to pressurize the transmitted liquid 8' in the liquid storage tank 10 under air pressure 15 and the transmitted liquid is made to backwardly flow to the module 4 from a line 14. By this method, the substance accumulated on the surface of a membrane is released.
