PURPOSE:To record necessary pictures without lack or excess by updating and recording picture data cyclically in a picture recording device, and holding there the data-recording of an optional number of pictures that are obtained before the time constant of the device by inputting a start signal. CONSTITUTION:When a main switch (not shown in the figure) is tuned ON, pictures are sequentially transferred from a picture processing unit 7 to the picture memory 8. The said pictures are updated and recorded cyclically in picture memories 8a-8j by a memory controller 21. When an operator turns a switch 22 ON, the start signal is inputted to the controller 21, so that a picture recorded immediately before the time of turning-on of the switch 22 is held as the first live picture, and another two preceeding the said one are left as the first and the second mask picture respectively. And further the second - the eighth live pictures are recorded. During the time in which the above described processes are executed, the first - the eighth sub-pictures are sequentially displayed realtime in a monitor TV 10.
