The invention provides the possibility, in sacks without a flat sack bottom, i.e. in sacks in which the valve opening lies between two parallel sack walls, to open the valve to a sufficient extent and to hold it in the opened position until it is opened out onto the filling nozzle. For this purpose, two clamping jaws acting towards one another are arranged below the valve opening to squeeze the empty sack located in the pocket. An opening mandrel for further opening is inserted in the opening of the valve thus formed. After sufficient opening of the valve, the guide mandrel is withdrawn and, at the same time, an iron is pressed onto the opened valve. As a result, the valve receives stable folds which, for attachment to the filling nozzle, cannot come undone.
