PURPOSE:The titled novel high polymer, obtained by reacting a specific polycation with a nonionic and anionic tetracyano compound, having improved processability, heat stability, flexibility and compatibility with high polymer materials and suitable as electric conductors, etc. CONSTITUTION:(A) One mol polycation having an imidazolium base in the backbone chain, e.g. a polymer obtained by reacting 1mol alpha,alpha'-bis-[imidazolyl(1)]-p-xylene with 0.5-2mol p-xylylene dichloride, e.g. at 30-150 deg.C, is reacted with (B) 0.5-2.6mol ninionic tetracyano compound, e.g. 7,7,8,8- tetracyanoquinodimethane, etc., and (C) 0.7-1.3mol anionic tetracyano compound, e.g. potassium salt of the component (B), etc., to afford the aimed polymer having 600-600,000 molecular weight.
