In order to facilitate the assembly of a steering device with an articulated shaft which is rotationally fixed via links (2, 9) to a steering gear mechanism (1) and a steering shaft (10), respectively, said articulated shaft is divided into two sub-shafts (3, 7) with telescoping ends (4, 6), steering gear mechanism (1), adjacent link (2), adjacent sub-shaft (3) and a sealing cuff (11) forming a preassembled constructional unit and the remaining parts of the steering device forming a second, preassembled constructional unit, which units are joined in the vehicle by pressing into one another the end regions (5, 6), which are now telescoping end regions, of the two sub-shafts (3, 7) in the region of an opening (12) in the splash wall (13) of the vehicle. <IMAGE>
