PURPOSE:A polymer which is a crosslinked salt of a polymer, containing a specific amount, based on the total constituent units thereof, of constituent units having anionic groups and having characteristic of rapidly disintegrating into small pieces in contact with water without holding the original shape. CONSTITUTION:A water disintegratable polymer, obtained by crosslinking a salt of a polymer containing 20-80wt%, based on the total constituent units thereof, constituent units having anionic groups, e.g. by a method for reacting a crosslinking agent or self-crosslinking by action of crosslinking groups intro duced into the salt and having <=30min disintegration time with water and >=5 disintegration degree. The molecular weight of the above-mentioned polymer is preferably 1000-100,000. USE:Usable as water disintegratable molded articles, e.g. water disintegratable packaging films or toys, or water disintegratable film agents capable of forming films by applying an aqueous solution before completing crosslinking to articles, etc.
