It is proposed in this connection that the injection pump be actuated by a double cam and that fuel be delivered after approximately each 360 DEG rotation of the crankshaft. At the same time, a pressure accumulator is connected to the injection pump on the outlet side and an outlet valve is additionally located in the pressure line upstream of the injection nozzle, which valve can be controlled by way of a computer with reference value inputs from the internal combustion engine. The injection timing is thereby freely selectable and good utilisation of fuel can be obtained.
