PURPOSE:To produce a modified polyolefin having good adhesive property, by graft polymerizing a modifying agent having double bond reactive with a polyolefin therewith in the presence of a specific compound. CONSTITUTION:One or more modifying agents, e.g. maleic acid, itaconic acid anhydride or acrylic acid, etc., having double bond reactive with a polyolefin, e.g. linear low-density polyethylene, etc., except maleic anhydride alone are graft polymerized with the polyolefin in the presence of a compound expressed by the formula (R<1>-R<4> are 1-6C alkyl, X and Y are H, 1-6C alkyl or halogen), e.g. 2,3-dimethyl-2,3-diphenylbutane, etc., preferably at 120-280 deg.C to afford the aimed modified polyolefin. EFFECT:The progress of crosslinking reaction or oxidation reaction is suppressed in the graft polymerization and emission of smell and discoloration caused by decomposed materials, etc., are slight.
