The invention relates to a fireplace for the combustion of fine solid fuels such as sawdust and wood chips, chopped straw and the like, consisting of a housing which is provided with at least one door and has combustion-air access openings and a room offtake opening. The aim of the invention is to carry out the combustion of these fine solid fuels in such a manner that no explosions take place, that the fireplace used for this is so safe and clean in operation that it can also be erected in living rooms and that fuel only has to be added after a number of hours of combustion. The invention is characterised by at least one vessel (barrel 8), inserted into the housing without a cover, for receiving the combustion material (9) tamped firmly into it, in the bottom of which at least one air inlet opening (11) is provided in a central arrangement and which in its interior has a centrally arranged basket (12) made from metal. <IMAGE>
