A conveyor for workpieces, in particular for workpiece carriers, comprises two parallel transporting rails (1, 2) and a cross-belt (3) arranged between these two. To allow the transfer of a workpiece carrier from a transporting rail (1) to the cross-belt (3), the carrier frame (14, 15, 16, 17) of the latter crosses the inner roller system (10, 11) of the transporting rails (1, 2) and bridges the clearance between the roller systems (10, 11) and the belt conveyors (4, 5) of both transporting rails. The cross-belt (3) is linked to two hub devices (25, 26) which can be driven independently of each other and which allow setting of the cross-belt (3) at various different vertical positions in relation to the transport rails (1, 2).
