Nibs for writing, drawing or printing generally consist of a substantially rod-shaped base body having a writing surface (12). In the course of its use, the base body forms a ridge at the edges of the writing surface which causes unacceptable deterioration in the recording operation, in that firstly the nib scratches on the recording substrate and damages it, and secondly the sharpness of outline of the line drawn with the wearing nib deteriorates unacceptably. To eliminate this shortcoming, it is proposed that a core body (13) which is resistant to abrasion on a recording substrate be surrounded by a jacket (14) which, in order to avoid the sharp edges (15) of the writing surface which are formed during the recording operation, consists of a material which is softer in comparison with the core body (13). <IMAGE>
