The invention relates to compositions for treating the hair and the scalp based on conventional cosmetic vehicles and additives, which contain as ingredient promoting hair growth a synergistic combination of minoxidil and diazoxide. These compositions are suitable for stopping hair loss and promoting growth of the hair on the head. The invention furthermore relates to a method for treating hair to reduce hair loss and to promote hair growth.
