A machine for knitting tubular fabrics by using a cylindrical array of (double barbed) needles is complemented by an external concentric shell and cam with oblique edges and an adjacent peg such that for each full cycle of the machine, the shell can accelerate to one angular position and halt for the cam to control selection of needles between thread pick-up and release positions, to allow formation of partial rows of meshes, then restores the needle positions while rotating to the start position for the next cycle.
