1 - Fluoro - 4 - methoxynaphthalene is prepared by diazotizing 4-methoxy-1-naphthylamine dissolved in sulphuric acid with sodium nitrite. A concentrated solution of ammonium fluoroborate is added to the solution of the diazonium salt in order to precipitate 4-methoxy - 1 - naphthyldiazonium fluoroborate, which is dried and then decomposed with heat The desired 1-fluoro-4-methoxynaphthalene is isolated by steam distillation of the decomposition products.ALSO:A fungicidal composition comprises one or more of 4-fluoro-, 4-chloro-, and 4-bromo-1-methoxynaphthalene together with a carrier which is (i) a solid or an oil and which may also contain a surface active agent, (ii) a liquid other than an oil and a surface active agent, or (iii) a surface active agent. Anionic, cationic and non-ionic emulsifiers are specified. The composition may also contain other known fungicides, insecticides and nematocides, numerous examples of which are given. The composition may be in the forms of emulsions, powders, wettable powders, granules and pellets. |
