PURPOSE:To prevent a data on a magnetic recording means from being destroyed by providing a data detection means generatiang a signal for blocking write current supply when a signal characteristic is a prescribed value or below at no input of a write data signal. CONSTITUTION:When no write data signal 10 is inputted, an output of a one- shot circuit 33 of a data detection means 70 goes to L, a transistor (TR) Q5 is turned off. Thus, the base of a TR Q1 reaches the same level as a power supply +V1, the TR Q1 is inoperative, no voltage across a diode D1 is generated, a write means 30 is brought into the inoperative state to block the power application to the magnetic head 32. Simultaneously, an error signal 20 representing a data error is outputted from a gate 34, sent to a write read control circuit, where the writing is stopped and an error is reported to a host device.
