PURPOSE:To attain the simultaneous recording and tracing recording of an information signal by recording the same discrimination data comprising a mode data and a display data having a different display content in response to the mode data repetitively plural number of times and recording the data on the same slanted track. CONSTITUTION:A change point of a rectangular wave signal SC formed by applying a pulse PG representing the absolute rotational phase of rotary heads HA, HB is detected by a change point detection circuit 71 and an area signal M2 is formed by a detection signal SD. In recording or erasing a discrimination word data at recording or reproduction, a signal from an OR gate 87 is written in a track at the section of post-amble designated by the signal M2. The discrimination word data consists of the mode data and the display data having a different display content in response to the mode data and the same discrimination data as the mode data are repeated for plural number of times. Thus, the simultaneous recording and tracing recording with an information signal are attained and the discrimination data is obtained surely at high speed search.
