PURPOSE:To simplify the adjustment of a recording section and to reduce the adjusting time by using an operation switch to select the adjustment item thereby oscillating a signal having a waveform, a frequency and a level in response to the adjustment item automatically. CONSTITUTION:A recording signal from an input terminal is fed to a recording circuit 1 and a recording head 11 through a changeover circuit 18 at the normal recording and recorded on a tape. 12. In using an operation switch 15 to select the adjustment item, a control circuit 16 controls an eternal setting oscillation circuit 17 and the oscillation output having the waveform, frequency and level in response to the adjustment item is led to the recording circuit 1 via the changeover circuit 18. The recording circuit 1, set already, is subjected to the phase correction, equalizing, amplification at a prescribed gain and bias adjustment, and the tape 12 is recorded via the recording head 11 based on the output from the recording circuit 1. In reproducing the recorded signal, whether or not the signal is recorded optimumly according to the characteristic of the tape is confirmed.
