PURPOSE:To eliminate a large and expensive grid, to simplify the constitution of a device and to reduce the size of the device by arranging beam position sensors. CONSTITUTION:A synchronizing device in an optical beam recording and scanning device is constituted of a synchronizing signal output circuit 30, respective beam position sensors 28a, 28b and a starting point detecting sensor 29 to output a beam position address signal AS outputted from the circuit 30 in an image memory 32 in a scanning system. A clock signal CK to be the reference of a synchronizing signal is outputted from a clock signal oscillator 40 in the circuit 30. Reference position signals outputted from respective sensors 28a, 28b, 29 and indicating reference positions on a scanning line for a prescribed period are applied to a counter 42 together with the clock CK and a real count value is outputted from the counter 42. A difference between the real count value and a reference count value outputted from a reference count value output device 44 is calculated by a subtractor 46 and the oscillation frequency of the oscillator 40 is controlled by the output of an arithmetic circuit 50. Thus, the constitution of the synchronizing device can be simplified by using the sensors 28a, 28b, 29.
