PURPOSE:To obtain the element having an improved display characteristics by forming the liquid crystal orientation film from a polymer contg. polyamide having at least one kind of a specific structural unit. CONSTITUTION:The liquid crystal display element has the liquid crystal orientation film 3 which is provided on the surface of a transparent conductive film 2 disposed on the up and the lower substrates 1 respectively, and is composed of the polymer contg. the polyamide shown by formulas I and II and is applied orienetation treatment. The polariaing plates 6 are arranged at an outside of the substrates 1 on the whole, an is inserted the liquid crystal 4 between the substrates, and is sealed the liquid crystal with a sealing material 5 to enclose the liquid crystal therebetween. The polyamide preferably contains >=10 mol%, more preferably>=25mol% the structural unit shown by formulas I and II. If the polyamide contains < 10mol% the structural unit, the good adhesive property of the polyamide against the substrate is not obtd. Thus, the coating film of the polymer is stable on standing in the practical working temperature range of the liquid crystal and has less tendency for generating a coloring. The titled element having the high releiable display characteristics is obtd.
