PURPOSE:To reduce thermal stress generated in a heat exchanger and improve the weight reduction and heat transfer efficiency of the exchanger by forming a half-ring-shaped low temp. fluid path between an inner half shell in a high temp. fluid path and a shell mainbody. CONSTITUTION:In the inside of a shell mainbody 1, a longitudinal buffle plate 5 mounted to a fixed tube sheet 4 is placed and a fluid path at the shell side is divided into a low temp. fluid path 6 and a high temp. fluid path 7 and in this path 7 a half-ring-shaped inner half shell 14 is placed to form a half-ring- shaped low temp. fluid path 15. Low temp. fluid A at the shell side meanders in the path 7 in the direction of the arrow 't' however, a part of the low temp. fluid flows into the half-ring-shaped path 15 from slits placed at both end parts of the plate 5 and flows in the direction of the arrow 'a''. After the low temp. fluid reaches the tip part of the plate 5, the fluid passing through the path 7 is discharged from an outlet 18 for high temp. fluid into the outside of the mainbody 1.
