PURPOSE:To obtain a high sealing effect with a simple structure, by using a rod seal assembly including a seal ring disposed around a rod integrally incorporated with an actuating piston and having an annular body and lips making into contact with the rod, and by making working gas upon the outer peripheral surface of the body. CONSTITUTION:In a Stirling engine, an actuating piston 2 is disposed in a cylinder 1, for rotating a drive section 5 through the intermediary of a rod 4. In this arrangement, a gas ring 14, an oil ring 14, an oil scraper 15, an oil seal chamber 16 and a seal ring 17 are arranged around the rod 4, successively in the mentioned order downward from the compression chamber 3 side. The oil seal chamber 16 is communicated with the compression chamber 3 through a check valve 18 so that the pressure in the oil seal chamber 16 is maintained at a pressure corresponding to a minimum pressure of working gas. Further, the seal ring 17 is composed of an annular body 19 and a pair of lips 20 projecting from the inner peripheral surface of the body 19 and making into contact with the outer peripheral surface of the rod 4, and is disposed in an intermediate member 21. Further, the minimum pressure of the working gas in compression gas is introduced into the gap 23 between both members 17, 21 through a gas ring 14 to enhance the sealing ability. |
