PURPOSE:To improve the drawability of a low alloy steel wire by specifying the island-type martensite of a stock contg. specific ratios of Si, Mn and C and consisting of the balance Fe to a controlled content. CONSTITUTION:The compsn. of the low alloy steel wire contains 0.50-1.20wt% Si, 1.00-2.00% Mn, and <=0.02% C, and consists of the balance Fe, in which the content of the island-type martensite is <=1.0%. The compsn. into which 0.01-0.25% and 0.005% N are incorporated in addition to the above-mentioned elements contg. Si and Mn at the same ratios is used. The drawing down to a small diameter without a heat treatment is possible by controlling the martensite content to <=1%. The improved metallic structure is obtd. by using such low alloy wire. The easy drawing by ordinary rolling alone is made possible and a need for the heat treatment is eliminated.
