PURPOSE:To improve the weldability of a wire for CO2 or Ar-CO2 welding to be produced by continuously casting a stock contg. specific ratios of C, Si, Mn, P, Al, Ti, O, N and further a specific ratio of Ca consisting of the balance Fe. CONSTITUTION:The compsn. of the wire contains <=0.10% C, 0.40-0.90 Si, 1.20-1.80% Mn, <=0.03% P, <=0.03% S, <=0.03% Al, 0.10-0.30% Ti, <=0.01% O, <=0.01 N, and further contains 0.0003-0.0015% Ca. Total of Ti and Zr is further incorporated at 0.10-0.30% into the above-mentioned compsn. Such stock is continuously cast to form a billet from which the solid wire for CO2 or Ar-CO2 welding is manufactured. The wire having the excellent weldability is provided at a good yield and low production cost by using such stock.
