PURPOSE:To reduce the number of output circuits by providing a microcomputer which operates an input circuit, a non-volatile memory, and an output circuit. CONSTITUTION:A working program of a numerical controller vice 01 is executed by a CPU 03, and the value of a position detector 11 is read as position information of each axis through an interface 07 by the CPU 03. Meanwhile, the boundary value of the operation area of each axis is stored in a parameter memory 05, and this boundary value and position information of each axis are compared with each other by the CPU 03 to decide where each axis is placed in the operation area. It is unnecessary to store X0-X4 and Z0-Z4 as boundary values in the parameter memory 05 if minimum and maximum values of operation strokes of individual axes are used, and an area signal is outputted as two-bit signal (0-3) to an external device 32 with respect to each axis. Thus, the area which each axis is placed in is reported to the external device with a smaller number of output circuits.
