PURPOSE:To make it possible to obtain a polymer more stereoregular than those obtained with conventional catalysts and to eliminate a deashing process, by polymerizing an olefin with the aid of a catalyst formed by combining a specified titanium-containing catalyst component with a silicon compound. CONSTITUTION:A catalyst for polymerization of an olefin is formed by combinin a catalyst component (A) with a silicon compound (B) and an organoaluminum compound, (A): a composition obtained by contacting a dialkoxymagnesium (a) with an aromatic dicarboxylic acid diester (b), an aromatic hydrocarbon (c) and a titanium halide (d) and contacting the obtained solid composition with an organic aluminum compound (e) and (B): a silicon compound of the general formula: SiRm(OR')4-m (wherein R is H, alkyl or aryl, R' is alkyl or aryl and m is in the range of 0<=m<=4).
