PURPOSE:To provide a monoazo compd. or its salt which has excellent performance and fastness and is used as a red dye for use in dyeing materials having a hydroxyl or carbonamide group, having a specified structural formula. CONSTITUTION:This monoazo compd. in the free form is a compd. of formula I. The compd. may be in the free form, but its alkali metal salt or its alkaline earth metal salt is preferred. In the formula, R1 and R2 are independently H or a lower alkyl which may be substituted; R3 is H, an alkyl which may be substituted, etc.; R4 is H or a lower alkyl which may be substituted; B is a group of formula II (wherein R6 is H, a sulfo group, etc.); X is Cl, F, a lower alkoxy, etc.; A is phenylene or naphthylene which may be substituted; Z is -SO2CH=CH2 or -SO2CH2CH2Y; Y is a group which can be removed by an alkali.
