PURPOSE:To automatize chain stretching by providing a sensor on the tip end part of the indication rod of a chain slackness measuring device, and driving a chain stretching device with an actuator operated by the signal of said sensor when the amount of slackness is increased. CONSTITUTION:When the amount of slackness of a chain 10 is increased during operation, a pipe 2 which is connected to a chain retaining lever 4 is lowered while an indicating rod 3 which is connected to a chain retaining lever 5 is lifted up. Accordingly, distance between the tip end of the indicating rod 3 and the sensing end of an approach switch 1 is varied. When this variation is sensed, a signal is issued and a pilot motor provided on a chain stretching device is driven rotating an intermediate shaft 9, to stretch the chain 10. As the chain 10 is stretched, the levers 4, 5 are restored, the indicating rod 3 is lowered, and the distance between the rod 3 and the switch 1 is restored stopping the pilot motor. Thereby, the chain can be automatically restored to a stretched condition at all times, preventing inconveniences due to the slackness of the chain.
