PURPOSE:To carry out flexible base color processing suitable to the feature of a color picture by arbitrarily controlling the ratio of base color addition and removal when multivalued color picture information is binarized with the aid of a dither pattern. CONSTITUTION:The 2nd logic bit 141 in a binarized logic table 14 becomes the dither output of data Y. The 1st logic bit 140 is a value obtained by binarizing the data Y by freely weighting the threshold of a dither pattern 17 for adding a base color. The AND of a data M and a data C is taken by the 1st logic bits 150 and 160 and a logic circuit 18, and that BL is generated. The 3rd logic bit 142 is a value obtained by binarizing the data Y by freely weighting the threshold of the dither pattern 17 in order to remove a base color. The NAND of the data M and the data C is taken by the 3rd logic bits 152 and 162 corresponding to the data M and the data C and a logic circuit 19, and a base color removal signal is generated. Logic circuits 20, 21 and 22 inhibit binarization outputs Y, M and C when the base color removal signal is on.
