PURPOSE:To measure the outer diameter of a thin cylinder accurately in a short time, by detecting side passage width of a laser beam of a laser scan measuring machine at each proper angle while rotating the thin cylinder placed on a turntable. CONSTITUTION:When laser beams 31 and 31 are emitted to facing outside surfaces of a thin cylinder 24 placed on a mounting base 30 from laser oscillators 3 and 3, a side passage widths l1' and l2' of the laser beams 31 and 31 received by the laser oscillators 4 and 4 can be determined. On the other hand, as the diameter lS of the mounting base 30 is known previously, the dimensions between the laser lights 31 and 31 are obtained by l0=lS+l1+l2 to be set value. Thus, the outer diameter of the thin cylinder 24 can be determined by D0=l0-(l1'+l2'). Outer diameter measured value D0 is determined twice at the same point during the one turn of a turntable 9 and so two data are averaged to obtain one value.
