1,166,767. Measuring radial forces. CARL FREUDENBERG K.G. Jan. 31, 1967 [Jan. 31, 1966], No. 4642/67. Heading G1W. A method and apparatus for measuring the radial forces exerted by sealing rings 12 of elastomeric materials and/or by spring elements of metal for sealing rings of this kind comprises expanding or contracting the unstressed ring to the nominal size of the part to be sealed by axial movement over a conical surface 15 Fig.2 as a result of which a resiliently movable part 11 of a two part gauge receives an initial force under the influence of which the movable part is moved towards or away from the stationary part 10. The distance the movable part 11 moves towards or away from the stationary element is indicated on a dial gauge 4. The dial gauge is operated by a probe 13 which is in contact with a leaf spring 7 on which the part 11 is mounted. The leaf spring 7 is fixed to the side of a rigid upright 2 on which is mounted the stationary part 10. Various measuring parts 10,11 are shown to accommodate various sizes of ring.
|
