PURPOSE:To obtain a portable measuring apparatus excellent in operability, by utilizing information being set as information for starting the program corresponding to one measuring mode selected from a plurality of measuring modes. CONSTITUTION:When a power source is turned ON, CPU1 outputs data for accessing an address $ FFFE onto an address bus 1b as address data and reads the data of the address $ FFFE. When CPU1 reads 8-bit data, next, CPU1 outputs data for accessing an address $ FFFF onto the address bus 10b as address data to read the data of the address $ FFFF. As a result, 16-bit data set to data receivers 4, 5 are read by CPU1 and come to the next data accessed by CPU1 and a program having said address as a head address is started. If the program of a measuring mode desired to be used is stored in a memory from said head address, simultaneously with the turning 'ON' of the power source, said measuring mode is automatically set.
