PURPOSE:To enable the temperature distribution of a high-temperature object to be measured simply and accurately, by applying a square wave pulse at one end of a cable sensor to display or record a combined wave of this square wave pulse and a reflected wave from the cable sensor. CONSTITUTION:A cable sensor 10 is buried into a high-temperature object such as a furnace wall and connected to a measuring section with a coaxial cable 12. A pulse generator 14 generates a square wave pulse to be applied to the cable sensor 10 through the coaxial cable 12. A square wave pulse is reflected at one end of the cable sensor 10 and returns to the transmitting end. A reflected wave pulse is generated not only at an end of the cable but also at any available part different in the temperature from the ambient area. So to speak, if there is a high temperature at two points of the cable sensor 10, it generates recess (a) and (b) at a point corresponding to the high-temperature part. The time up to these (a) and (b) from the original (O) corresponds to the distance from the transmitting end to the high-temperature section. A temper ature difference between the parts can be determined by determining the depth of the recesses.
