PURPOSE:To obtain a membrane having excellent resistance to heat and chemicals and capable of separating a high-temp. gas for a long period by dissolving an aromatic copolymeric imide or copolymeric amido-imide in a solvent obtained by mixing an aromatic hydrocarbon into a polar org. solvent, and forming a film with the soln. CONSTITUTION:A copolymeric imide having 90-70mol% repeating unit shown by formula I and 10-30mol% repeating unit shown by formula II or a copolymeric amide-imide having 90-70mol% repeating unit shown by formula III and 30-10mol% repeating unit shown by formula IV is used. The polymer is dissolved in a polar org. solvent to obtain a 5-35wt% soln. Furthermore, 1-40wt% aromatic hydrocarbon is added to the soln. The film-forming soln. is used to produce a membrane on a porous carrier. The membrane has excellent heat resistance, and a gas at the high temp. of 60-180 deg.C can be separated over a long period.
