PURPOSE:To enable initial excitation to be quickly terminated, by controlling the output current of an exciting AC-DC converter according to field current signal on the initial excitation. CONSTITUTION:On initial excitation operation, by an output regulator 6, field current signal 15a is subtracted from reference voltage, and the shortage value 25a of the field current signal 15a is found out, and when the shortage value 25a is larger than a specified value P, then the output of an exciting AC-DC converter 5 is made to be the greatest, and when the shortage value 25a is within the specified value P, then the output of the AC-DC converter 5 is controlled according to the shortage value 25a. When the shortage value 25a is smaller than a set value, then it is discriminated that the initial excitation operation is terminated, and by the output regulator 6, the output of the AC-DC converter 5 is controlled according to signal from an automatic voltage regulator 9 or a manually-operated voltage setting device 10.
