PURPOSE:To easily and accurately know the displacement in the horizontal direction of a prescribed point of a material body by knowing the displacement of the prescribed point of the material body from an image picked-up result of the 2nd image pickup device with the image picked-up result of the 1st image pickup device as a reference. CONSTITUTION:With the image pickup device 1a, the material body 3 is picked up on image as shown in figure A, for instance, and when the prescribed point of the material body whose height is to be calculated is denoted as P, this point P is picked up on image at the position of x1. On the other hand, with the image pickup device 1b, the material body is picked up on image as shown in figure B and the point P of the material body 3 is picked up on image at the position of x2. Accordingly, in an image processing circuit 6, the displacement in the horizontal direction of the point P of the material body 3 can be easily and accurately known to be x2-x1 from image picked-up signals Sa and Sb and the height (h) can be accurately calculated from the reference plane 2 of the point P of the material body 3 from the displacement x2-x1. In this way, the displacement in the horizontal direction of the prescribed point of the material body 3 can be easily and accurately known by the titled instrument.
