PURPOSE:To prevent blurring without the debasing of a display grade and to make negative display at the same instant by forming a display patterning of the 1st and 2nd electrodes. CONSTITUTION:The oxidation coloring side electrode 2 and the reduction coloring side electrode 5 are so formed that display pattern parts 2a, 5a and lead parts 2b, 5b are insulated by cutting grooves 2c, 5c from the peripheral parts 2d, 5d of the display pattern. An oxidation coloring side lead part 2d and reduction coloring side lead part 5d are so constituted as not to overlap on each other. The cutting grooves 2c, 5c are formed at an invisible fine width. A coloring voltage is impressed to the display pattern part and a decoloring voltage to the peripheral part of the display and the lead parts are put in a non- impressed state by impressing a -1.5V to the reduction coloring side display pattern 5a, the same lead part 5b and the peripheral part 2d of the oxidation coloring side display and grounding the peripheral part 5d of the reduction coloring side display, the oxidation coloring side display pattern 2a and the same lead part 2b. The good display having no blurring in the peripheral part is thus executed.
