PURPOSE:To obtain a signal with a high SN ratio extending up to high recording density by extending the length of the rear end part of a magnetic pole in the breadthwise direction of a track to direct the axis of easy magnetization to this breadthwise direction. CONSTITUTION:Soft magnetic thin films 3-1 and 3-2 are connected by a rear end part 305, and a gap 3-3 is formed in a head front end part by a nonmagnetic material. A coil 3-4 is wound between thin films 3-1 and 3-2 through an insulating film. The length of the rear end part of the magnetic pole in the breadthwise direction of the track is made longer than a track width W in this manner to direct the axis of easy magnetization to the direction of an arrow 3-6. If an external magnetic field is impressed in the direction of the arrow 3-6 when the thin films 3-1 and 3-2 are stuck, magnetic anisotropy is strengthened. In comparison with a head where the axis of easy magnetization is not directed to the direction of the arrow 3-6, the high S/N ratio is attained up to the high recording density. |
