PURPOSE:To detect rotary torque without reference to a speed, etc., by setting magnetic poles of an iron core for excitation at one end of a torsion bar at the intermediate position of magnetic poles of an iron core for detection at the other end, and providing the respective magnetic poles with winding made different in direction alternately. CONSTITUTION:Magnetic poles 181-184 and 191-194 face each other across a small gap l and magnetic poles 191-194 of an iron core 17 are set at respective intermediate positions of magnetic poles 181-184 of an iron core 16. Then, the magnetic poles 181-184 are wound with series coils 201-204 which are equal in the number of turns and opposite in winding direction alternately, and the magnetic poles 191-194 are also wound with detection coils 211-214. When a DC motor 11 is rotated to perform screw clamping operation, torque originating from reaction is generated at the tip of a bit 14 and the torsion bar 15 is twisted with the torque by a quantity proportional to the torque.
