PURPOSE:To enable a printing head to be cleaned without requiring any manual operation of the operator, by providing a printing electrode polishing part at the peripheral surface of a part of a platen, and a printing ribbon moving mechanism for drawing out a printing ribbon from a position on the front side of printing electrodes. CONSTITUTION:In a cleaning operation, a printing head 30 is moved to the position of a polishing part 12 of a platen 10, a printing ribbon 21 is drawn out by depressing it downward from a position on the front side of the head 30 by a printing ribbon moving mechanism 40, and the head 30 is pressed against the polishing part 12 of the platen 10, without the ribbon 21 therebetween, so that printing electrodes 31 provided at the tip of the head 30 are brought into direct contact with the polishing part 12. Under this condition, the head 30 is moved in parallel to the axis 13 of the platen 10, whereby the tips of the electrodes 31 are polished, and the printing head 30 is automatically cleaned. |
